Morehead State University Athletics
Morehead State University is an NCAA Division I school, with baseball, basketball, football, cross-country, indoor and outdoor track, golf, and tennis for men and basketball, cross-country, indoor and outdoor track, soccer’s, softball, tennis, and volleyball for women. There is also a co-educational program in rifle. The team nickname is the Eagles. The football team competes at the I-AA level of the NCAA. Morehead State University is in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Sports facilities include a basketball center, a stadium for football and cross-country, a baseball field, a softball field, tennis courts, and a soccer field.
The athletic program began with basketball in the early part of the 1900s. The team has won Ohio Valley Conference championships in football, basketball, baseball, golf, cross-country, volleyball, indoor tennis and track. Morehead State University is also proud of its athletes’ academic performance; Morehead State University athletes have won the Ohio Valley Conference academic achievement banner five times since 1986. There are also been several All-American student athletes.
The Athletics Department supports eight men’s sports, eight women’s sports, and a co-ed Rifle sport. MSU belongs to the NCAA, Ohio Valley Conference, and Pioneer Football League. All sports except football compete at the Division-I level; football competes at the Division-1-AA level. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, football, cross country, indoor and outdoor track, golf, and tennis. Women’s sports include basketball, cross country, indoor and outdoor track, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
